I often joke that my mission in life is to find flat shoes that are still interesting. Every now and again you may notice a pair of sparkly pumps or white sandals with big gold buckles appearing on my instagram. This is tends to happen when I have completed one of said missions.
The April issue of Stylist magazine saw an article entitled: "The death of high heels: why the flat is back". In all honesty I practically cheered when I saw that headline. This spring/summer designers are concentrating on flats which means there is no end of choice (farewell battered dolly shoes).
The Flat Boot
Otherwise known as the saviour. They can be slouchy, smart, Dr Martens or Chelsea boots but you need a pair either way. I live in mine in spring as I find they really edge up girly summer dresses which are easy to wear but can be a bit twee. Never forget the partner in crime for the flat boot is of course the leather jacket.
Gladiators a fine, a tried and tested style classic. Now however we are seeing more edgy sandals, slightly more chunky, much more interesting. It is said that the first thing women notice when they meet someone new is their shoes, so summer is no excuse to get out the old primark flipflops - keep your feet pretty. I particularly like wearing mine with rolled up jeans.
The Flatform
This is perfect for the ladies that want the comfort of flats but feel a nervous breakdown coming on at the thought of having no extra height. Possibly one of the coolest styles out there this season.
A summer staple for years now, bring them into this season by wearing them in metallic or pastel shades. They look great with summer shorts and still look smart. I am planning on getting some to wear for work as I need shoes that look great but I can run around in.
I have a bit of an issue with black pumps, they just remind me of school shoes. That is not to say that a ballet flat is not a girls best friend (much cheaper than diamonds right?). Just keep them interesting, they are a simple shoe so they can really carry anything. Colour, embellishment, go wild. If you want to keep them modern but this all sounds a bit scary opt for a shoe with a pointy toe or a sling-back.
